| The Problem with Bob Geldof: Right this issue’s loony bin contains possibly the biggest hypocrite ever to walk the face of the earth –with the possible exception of all parents- Bob Geldof. Now let me cover my ass right now, assisting Africa relieve it’s self of the problems it has is a noble cause. I would like to see a prosperous Africa, one that is on a level playing field with western countries, and I want to see its brightest and best known and respected around the world. I like Africa, I’ve been there, it poor but the people are so fantastic! Its only real floor is it’s far too hot for me, but that’s my opinion. Ok, disclaimer over, on to the issue at hand; Why the HELL does some washed up, over the hill, tired old fart of a celebrity feel the compulsion to perform acts of mass guilt that help the no one. This can be clearly sorted into three categories; First, if ‘saint’ Geldof is so concerned about the plight of Africans, like he professes to, then why has he not donated the majority of his estate (Worth millions, and puts many decent upper class conservatives to same) for debt relief? For some one who is being hailed as a great man who really cares why has he only donated the tax deductibles? He cares about on thing only, glory. Since he washed up on the shores of mediocrity and realized he was doomed to be forgotten in ten minutes he has wanted to be remembered for something. So after some apparent thought he decided to free Africa from poverty. The cause is just; the reasoning is flawed and selfish. He wants ever lasting fame as the man who ended a continent’s suffering, not the supporters of the cause, not the people who joined in, not even the people themselves who desperately try to work their way out of poverty, but bloody ‘saint’ bloody Geldof. The only thing this man is a saint of is self interest. Still think he’s a good guy, well then lets continue. Second, both concerts he held had a little thing called expenses. This means that all those impoverished celebrities (who collectively turn a profit equivalent of the dept of the majority of sub-Saharan Africa) have to have transport and accommodation, not to mention buffet and drink, paid for. At live8 Many of these people flew in on helicopters, did they pay for them? Well no, why should they, they are doing this for free, they deserve to be flown around London, put up for two nights in expensive hotel suites, with mini bars of course. Know who pays for this? Well why should any of the celebrities who donate their time because of their bleeding hearts for these people pay –what is essentially the equivalent of loose change for them- For their rooms and upkeep? The money these concerts raise first has to pay for them, now we understand that speakers, stages and electronics cost money, and have no problem with these coming out of the pot we donated into. But this pot also pays for the pathetic people, who have huge amounts of money, to eat and sleep in the manner they have become accustomed. So still behind the ‘ideas’ behind live8 and Geldof’s self serving activates? I’ll go on. Third, these charity events don’t do anything. Africa is not well. In fact the aid, that everyone wants to be cancelled, was enough to build infrastructure and boost their economies. But what have they spent it on? War and decadence. It has been squandered. The leaders of these countries have fought over resources and worse since time immemorial, but now thanks to our money we lent them, they have tanks, guns, planes, bombs, etc… They also build large government palaces and huge gardens for themselves. They don’t do things like, improve irrigation so people won’t starve from crop failure, or dig fresh, clean water wells so people won’t die from dirty water. These leaders have more contempt and less care for their own people than the activists claim the G8 leaders have combine! Cancelling the dept will only allow these greedy bastards to borrow more, and live like gods among their weak, starving and dying citizens. The injustice isn’t between us and Africa, the real injustice is between the leaders of Africa and its people. The dept actually provides a level of economic control and stability on these mad cap, run away African Governments. Now not all African governments are like that, but those that aren’t, are working off their dept. They are well on the way to becoming prosperous. Some even are attracting investors from our countries, attracted by cheaper labour. Thee are some success stories, but every success story is managing to pay off the dept it borrowed in order to become successful. Still believe in ‘saint’ Geldof and the problems of Africa as told from his narrow and un-educated perspective? Then you too have narrowed your mind into the rails the media and this prat of a man have created. And I cannot help you…. |
